Volunteers have been described as the life-blood of community rail. They are responsible for supporting and delivering much of the work that goes on in railway environments across the UK.
Volunteering activities within community rail are diverse. They can include community gardening and station maintenance. Volunteers run events, engage with schools and community groups. They facilitate and promote walking and cycling activities. They work to improve accessibility.
The benefits of having a human presence at stations are many. We hope our Melksham Station Café will give the station a more welcoming feel. And secure a sense of community ownership.
We have a wonderful team of volunteers here at Melksham Station Cafe, if you know anyone that would benefit from a professional workplace environment please get in touch. We have worked hard to build links with Fairfield Farm College and local adult support workers to help make Melksham Station Cafe a fun, and calm place to work and have many regular volunteers that support us on a weekly basis.
Miss Lottie
Lottie is a very familiar face here at the Cafe and has helped at many of our other events like the Food and River festival and our Drive In Cinema! She is getting quite renowned for making a cracking bacon sandwich! Lottie loves all things unicorn and both her and manager Gem share an unhealthy obsession with pretty shoes!
Lottie has now joined us as a paid employee. This is her first employed role and we are absolutely thrilled to have her as part of the Cafe team.
Would you like to join us and volunteer at the Café? Perhaps help with gardening? May be get involved in other projects at the new Melksham Hub? This is a great opportunity to give something back to the community and meet new friends.
