It is with great sadness that we announce our lovely
little community cafe will be closing at the end of May 2023.

The decision to close was not easy but with the increased cafe expenses, reduction in local funding
and footfall at Melksham station we cannot find a way to keep the cafe open.
As a not-for-profit company our sole purpose was to provide a safe space for rail passengers whilst supporting and empowering members of our community from marginalised backgrounds Thanks to the support from our amazing staff, our cafe volunteers have learnt they can make a valuable contribution to organisations and play a vital role in society.
For the time-being we will continue to stay open, albeit with reduced hours. These will be advertised in the next few days. Our Glee Club will also remain open every Wednesday 12.30-2.30pm until such time that we close our doors completely.
Thank you to our customers for your support. We hope that in a short period of time we have made a positive contribution to our community.

Welcome to Melksham Station's car park cycle park and cafe

The new facilities at Melksham Station Cafe are installed and the café with toilet facilities officially opened on May 1st 2021. A real time destination board is in the café, so you can enjoy your coffee and still be confident when your Melksham train will arrive. There is free 30 minute parking, electric car charging and cycle stands. We have provided a defibrillator which is available 24/7 with access code via a 999 call.

We conducted a passenger survey in the autumn of 2021 and as a result we are implementing improvements in 2022. A covered exterior seating area has been introduced with heating, lighting plus protection from the wind and rain. The café hours have been extended to be open from 7am Monday to Friday. We have introduced a ‘grab and go’ menu and we are now on Just-Eat so you can pre-order from our menu. The Cafe will become an information point for onward travel information together with a map to show walking and cycling routes to the town centre. plus Improved wayfinding signage to and around the station.

Explore our web site for more information on the facilities and events.

And who’s behind all of this great activity? The Melksham Station Cafe is another exciting project from TransWilts. And we are a non profit-making Community Interest Company. ‘Company’ sounds formal but it’s the name the government gave social enterprises back in 2005. Since we were incorporated in 2015 TransWilts has served the local community in many positive ways. The Wiltshire economy has benefited too thanks to improved local rail services, plus the connection with the national rail network. And we couldn’t do it without financial and community support. So thank you!

ABOUT TRANSWILTS

TransWilts is a Community Rail Partnership and non-profit making Community Interest Company (CIC). All our funding is directed to rail related projects. We exist entirely for the benefit of the local community.

The Government supports our objectives and activities. TransWilts is also an Accredited Partnership with the Department of Transport. Accreditation is formal recognition that our partnership operates to a high standard. We are able to access grant finance administered by the Community Rail Network (formerly ACoRP).

Our CIC status means we are registered at Companies House. We are therefore able to enter into leases and register for VAT. These two factors enabled us to progress the Melksham Station Cafe.

Our TransWilts website describes what a Community Rail Partnership does.
